Focal plane phase-detection is only supported for lenses that do not have internal focus motors on the ?7R IV with firmware V1.20 or later, and the ?6600 with firmware V1.10 or later as of September 2020. The LA-EA5 supports all A-mount lenses5, including models such as the Sonnar T* 135 mm F1.8 ZA and Planar T* 85 mm F1.4 ZA that do not have internal motors. Full support is provided for focal plane phase-detection AF, Real-time Eye AF (human and animal), Real-time Tracking and continuous AF/AE tracking3 at up to 11 frames per second4.
